This week our girls had a night off with a scheduled BYE, but will face Richmond Yellow next game.

WSL3 - Report by Lisa Asbury

This week saw us take on St Caths in what turned out to be a hard-fought and spirited contest. With a strong line-up of Lisa M, Lisa A, Sandra, Kerry, Sally, Emily, Megan, Hannah, Phoebe, and a very welcome return to the pool for Susan after two years away, the girls were ready to give it their all.

The game didn’t start our way, with St Caths getting the jump early and putting us three goals behind at quarter time. But the second quarter was one of our best for the season – we adjusted well, applied pressure, and showed great composure. Essendon hit back with three goals of our own, while holding St Caths to just one, bringing us right back into the contest and just a single goal down at the half.

Our magnificent captain Lisa M led the team with real conviction, setting the tone through her energy, direction, and determination. Sandra once again stood tall in goals, performing admirably and putting up her regular wall of defence that kept us in the game when St Caths pressed hard. Sally was terrific in Centre Back, shutting down the play with tenacity and strength, giving the whole team confidence in defence. Hannah worked tirelessly all match, keeping pace with the opposition and finding smart spaces to create opportunities. Up front, Phoebe was in great form with two smartly taken goals, while Lisa A, Kerry, and Emily each slotted one to keep us in touch.

The effort, teamwork, and fight were all there, but in the end, St Caths were just that bit sharper, and we couldn’t quite bridge the gap – the final score finishing Essendon 5, St Caths 7.

Special thanks go to Phoebe and Emily, not just for their impact today, but also for stepping up and helping out with the State League 3 side this week – much appreciated. A huge shout-out also to Amber for doing table duties – your support makes a big difference and doesn’t go unnoticed.

It was also great to see the basics training on Monday already starting to pay off – some of the ball control and positioning clearly came from that extra work. Let’s keep building on it by getting everyone along this coming Monday at 7:30pm. The more we train together, the stronger we’ll get.

And finally, a very warm welcome back to Susan – fantastic to see you back in the water after two years away, and we’re excited for what’s to come!

The score line might not have gone our way, but the performance and spirit certainly show how far this group has come.

Essendon were defeated by St Catherine's : 5 - 7   Goals : Phoebe 2, Lisa A 1, Kerry 1, Emily 1

MSL4 - Report by Vincent Muneretto

Another tough contest but a solid win for the team. We started switched on, but a couple of missed penalties meant it was 1–1 after the first. In the second quarter we shook off the cobwebs and banged in four, with a slick backhand from Vince that Tex would’ve been proud of, giving us a 2-goal lead at the half. The third was quiet with just Ambrose finding the net, but we held strong. In the last quarter we oozed too much class, just like a Crows forward line, and finished the job. Big credit to Matty, who stepped up as goalie in the second half on a busted ankle, and to Ryan and Riccardo who put away a couple of classy goals.

Essendon defeated Monash : 8-5  Goals: Ryan 2, Vince 2, Riccardo 2, Ambrose 1, Callum 1

Note from the Editor - This week its your club President and Secretary who have taken the reins for the Wrap while Lisa takes a well deserved holiday, so unlike your usual high quality product, we may have missed the Juniors wraps - if this is the case I will place them in next weeks Wraps! Have a great weekend everyone!
