WSL2 - Report by Darren Steere
It had been awhile since the girls have had a game of polo. We had the weekend away in Albury/Wodonga a little while ago, then we had to forfeit a game with sickness, followed by a forfeit being given to us and then a bye, plus the Melbourne Cup break.
We faced the Richmond Yellow team that are 4th on the ladder. It was a bit chaotic at the start, with no one for the table except me. So the girls ran the bench, while I addressed them at the breaks. So it was a fairly tight first quarter. We broke the game open in the second quarter and was never threatened after that. I forgot to take a photo of the game sheet (missed Andrew’s professionalism) so not sure of the details, goal scorers etc.

The girls had a scheduled BYE this week, and will be playing their final game of the competition next Tuesday night against Monash Uni. Can they pull off an upset win against the ladder leaders?

ESSENDON PULLS OFF THE HEIST (AJAX GET DUNKED)
Forget your streaming service—the real drama was in the pool this week!
The Essendon crew didn't just play against Ajax; they delivered a masterclass in pressure, snatching an absolutely bonkers 1 goal victory right out of the jaws of a tight contest! This win was a pure adrenaline shot. We came, we saw, we made a splash!
The Deep End Download : Game Highlights
The Twin Torpedoes: Our strike force was lethal! Lee and Ryan went full beast mode, each firing in two phenomenal goals and leaving scorch marks on the water. They are officially certified problem-makers for the opposition!
The Single-Shot Assassins: Talk about spreading the wealth! The depth scoring was off the charts with Paul, Riccardo, Callum, and Vince each dropping a dagger (one crucial goal apiece) into the Ajax net. When six players are scoring, you know we're playing team polo!
The Kraken: Andy! Seriously, someone check Andy for gills. Our goalie was an absolute monster—a six-armed, rubber-limbed, shot-swallowing beast! Every time Ajax thought they had a chance, Andy was there with a massive, game-winning denial. Defense was tighter than a corked water bottle!
The Final Buzzer Grind: This wasn't a cruise control win. We put the hard yards in for four epic quarters, proving that the Essendon team motto is "Never Give Up, Even When Your Fingers are Pruning." Champions mentality!
Time to celebrate this EPIC win, Essendon! Now go get some proper rest, because next week, we're doing it all over again!
Essendon defeated Ajax : 8 - 7 Goals : Lee 2, Ryan 2, Paul 1, Riccardo 1, Callum 1, Vince 1

12&U Mixed - Report by Sheridan Mom
After a long preseason, our U12s mixed team finally hit the water for their first game! With not quite enough players for a full squad, we have teamed up with DVE Aquatic, who will rotate a number of players through each week to ensure a full squad. The excitement was high as the team stepped into the impressive MGGS facilities, which felt more like the balmy heat of North Queensland than Melbourne!
From the opening whistle, we were off to a flying start - winning the swim-up, we were able to score within the first minute. Monash managed a few long shots as we struggled to “man” up in defence and shut down their stronger shooters. With the first half ending at 2 all.
The second half told a different story. Coach Hayden reminded the team to stay between their player and the goals, and the kids responded brilliantly. Our defense tightened, and we dominated on the counterattack—scoring most of our goals in this period.
With 12 players available, substitutions were a challenge, but a big thank you to the kids for their patience and teamwork. Everyone was eager to spend time in the water, and it showed in the energy and effort throughout the game.
It was a fantastic attacking performance - well done to all the U12s, especially those playing their very first game! The team will only grow stronger as we learn and play together this season.

Youth Boys (Jack) - Report by Tim Elmore
DVE(Essendon) made a statement against the Richmond Tigers this week with a commanding 21–2 win. From the first whistle, DVE was in control, scoring six unanswered goals in the opening quarter through sharp passing and clinical finishing.
The momentum continued into the second quarter, with DVE outscoring Richmond 5–1. Richmond’s only goal came from a rare turnover, but DVE kept the pressure high and dictated the game’s pace.
After the change of ends, Richmond tried to adjust, moving the ball faster and creating a few gaps. Jack was caught out of position, resulting in a holding exclusion, but DVE’s defence and goalkeeper held firm, preventing any goals, finishing the third 5–0.
The final quarter saw increased intensity and multiple exclusions, but DVE’s composure and team structure proved too strong. Another dominant 5–1 quarter sealed the emphatic victory.
A complete team performance sees DVE (Essendon) continue their strong form, showcasing skill, discipline, and teamwork across the pool.
