Summer Splash 2026 kicked off on a perfect summer evening.
With new teams formed — splitting the SL3 squad and adding juniors for extra experience and
game time — it was a great opportunity to build combinations and confidence.
The first half was challenging, as we struggled to shut down St Caths’ fast counterattacks,
particularly after shot clocks expired or passes were intercepted.
The second half showed a big improvement. Our defence tightened up, we supported each
other well, and that teamwork paid off with more controlled play and several shots on goal.
A big well done to juniors Ami, Brona, and Amie, who all played their part and gained valuable
experience. Special mention to Cate for stepping in and giving it a go in goals — great effort!
Thank you also to Lachlan for taking on table duty, and to Darren for his coaching, guidance,
and support throughout the game.
Essendon were defeated by St Caths : 0 - 10

With players dropping out at the last second, the whole drive to MSAC I started to become nervous that we would have no bench — what a way to start the Summer Splash. But we managed to gather eight of us poolside before our 7:40 start. We had a few new juniors join from both our club and other clubs, but as we were split, we missed some familiar faces.
We hopped straight into the game, with Sandra slotting one in during the first quarter, while Footscray scored too many to count. The second quarter wasn’t too good for us either; we didn’t even score once, although Gen and I were on a swim-up grind. The third quarter was a bit better, with most of us striving to get back into defence and Gen scoring our second goal. The fourth quarter was a big one for all of us, especially the juniors, including myself. We all kept driving into attack and getting back on defence, slotting our last goal and leaving the scoreboard at 3–15.
Although the scoreboard might not suggest it, everybody did an incredible job settling into the new team and pushing themselves to their best. I am so proud of everyone and so lucky that I get to play alongside such inspiring ladies every week.

The boys were back for their first game in over two months and I imagine many beers were had during that time, and some concerns were raised as some may had even forgotten how to swim.
As I watched from my prime viewing spot on the scoring table let me tell you - Beer consumption wasn't obvious and my concerns were soon allayed.
They might as well have just finished playing last week. The communication was there, the coordination, the passing masterful, the goals incredible, it had it all, even Ambrose had a bit mischief, and Ruckus played a masterful Cover™ lob shot.
The game was played at a cracking pace, but the lads moved the ball well, covered for each other, and made the right switches at the right time 🔄 — keeping the Dragons on the back foot for most of the night.
In goals, the keepers stood tall 🧱, pulling off some crucial saves to shut down momentum whenever NVP threatened. At the other end, the attack clicked beautifully, with consistent pressure and sharp finishing turning chances into goals.
Remember boys every hat trick is a team shout! (Ricciardo and Callum)
The final goal by Ricciardo was really the icing on the casket, a casual toss that just floated on the water at a leisurely pace into the goals right past the keeper! (Good Luck in Albury-Wodonga this weekend Ricciardo)
Great start to 2026 lads, keep it up!
Essendon thrashed NYP Dragons : 15 - 5

First game back and I know I had a few cobwebs and a little rust. The new season and our new team welcomed back a couple of legends Rohan and Dave ! Welcome to first gamer Tom who did the swim off what a way to learn the game.
With super coach Ruckus on the sidelines poker faced and trying to find inspiration. We struggled at the start to get a rhythm and learn each others styles and were soon a few goals down. Second quarter saw us get a couple back and a great third quarter got us within a goal or two. Unfortunately we fell away in the last as we attacked more and they started to cherry pick on turnovers. Eventually we we went down 9-3 but as we get into it better things will happen
Essendon were defeated by Richmond Sharks: 3 - 9
Goals : Bryan 2, Andrew 1

First game of the year and, while we thought the kids might be a little rusty, they came back with
a vengeance.
From the opening whistle, quick goals, strong counterattacks, and solid defence across the pool
set the tone. The intensity and teamwork paid off, with the mercy rule coming into effect by
halftime.
There’s always room for improvement, particularly in looking to the middle of the pool for spare
players in front of goal rather than shooting straight at the goalkeeper — great learning points to
take forward.
Overall, an excellent team performance. Well done, team!
Essendon/DVE Aquatic defeated Footscray : 16 - 0

First game back after the break for our Footscray/Essendon/Monash/Northcote U14s - 9 players against DVE at MSAC.
A great tense start, with some excellent defence from our boys! Some good deliberate forward ball movement too, creating some great chances with shots going just wide! Trailing 0-1 at quarter time.
Q2 the game continued on the same theme - good defence, deliberate ball movement. So close to getting on the board with some good shots (Lukas off the cross-bar). So close in game play, with Angus dominant as goalie, but 0-3 at half time.
Concentration lapses at the start of the 3rd quarter were costly, with DVE scoring a number of times in the first 3 minutes. Got back on track by the end of the quarter, trailing 0-8.
Q4 was the best of the game for our boys - some quicker ball movement helping our attacks, and finally our persistence paid off with a goal to Ashton!
Angus superb in goal all game, 1 goal Ashton.
