Women's A Grade - Report by Torben Fink-Jensen (Photos Below)
Essendon were playing NYP in their 2nd Summer Splash A grade game. We had 9 players vs NYP with 7, however the majority of their players were SL1 meaning we were in for a hard game.
The game pace was pretty steady and both teams had chances but Essendon were struggling to complete their sets and get good shots on goal.
Towards the end of the quarter, NYP broke the stalemate after a clean break and Katie couldn't do much. They followed this up with a penalty to make it 0-2.
In Q2, the game stayed tight and defensive, but Essendon were at least keeping NYP out for most of the quarter. Towards the end of the quarter, NYP were awarded a penalty in dubious circumstances, but that didn't matter as they made it 3-0.
This did seem to spark Essendon to life and Gen finally had a good receive in Centre Forward and put away a good shot. Then Lara found herself with a clear shot on goal from the top of the key and smashed it home. Now with the score at 2-3, Essendon were back in it.
Essendon kept the pressure on during Q3 but couldn't get a goal despite some good moves.
NYP did manage a goal though a strong shot, but luckily Mietta pulled one back with a shot from close. to leave the game still in the balance at 3-4
For Q4, Essendon were again unable to drive ahead of the NYP defence. There were a couple of close attempts but they were mostly shut down. Essendon' s defence was strong but the game was decided by single goals and NYP were able to score one more for a 3-5 win
Essendon were defeated by NYP : 3 - 5
Goals : Gen 1, Lara 1, Mietta 1

Women's B Grade : EssRed - Report by Sheridan Mom
With just one on the bench this week, we also welcomed Josie for her first senior game.
Old Ivanhoe got the jump on us early, sneaking in two quick goals from easy counterattacks where our defensive coverage wasn’t quite there. We regrouped in the second quarter and tightened things up across the pool. Sheridan opened our account with a lob from a tight angle at two metres, sparking a much stronger passage of play.
The second half was a hard-fought and competitive battle. We earned several extra-man opportunities but couldn’t always capitalise, missing a few very gettable chances. Josie eventually broke through with a fantastic finish, finding the back of the net for her first senior goal.
A much-improved performance from last week, with plenty more to build on in the coming weeks.
Thank you to Kate for scoring this week.

Now I didn't get a copy of the rap sheet - so on score and goal allocation, it will be a rough guess until I get corrected. So I assure you when I say I scored every goal and took us to victory, it's a bald faced lie.
We all arrived at the venue a little confused, which may not be that unusual for us, but this time it was due to a delay and scheduling fault. But we got it right eventually as WPV showed up to tell us what to do. We got straight into pool 1, which was not ours, and we moved to pool 2.
Firstly big ups to Matt Lattrell for bolstering our numbers allowing us some respite with a single bench space.
I stepped in for the swim off and promptly got trounced by the opposition, but we were off. 1st quarter wasn't bad, thanks to Andy's goal keeping, and some quick turnarounds, we were on the front foot, 3-2 (I think).
2nd and 3rd quarter we started to run out of steam (I sure did), but we wouldn't go down without making some fighting moves, and scoring some goals. We were a little disorganised and some communication errors put Richmond ahead of us. I stuffed up BWee's hard fought penalty but promptly made up for it and scored a quick goal on the rebound (big news for me, sports fans).
4th Quarter our goose was well and truly cooked, as a fair warning to all players, gym beforehand might have been a bad idea.
Good work to Haydo, Liam, MattyR and Andy for keeping our communication in check, apologies my ears were full of water. Special welcome back to Rohan who will no doubt be doing some damage this year.
Forgive me as I am not sure all the goals scored or the final score, but I'm sure I'm close, and we sure fought hard against a fairly full bench.
My Highlight was getting invited to drinks by the other Richmond team by mistake, and I went along anyway for the lols. Photo below for posterity and proof.
Essendon were defeated by Richmond Hippos : 7 - 13
Goals : Sam 1, BWee some, Matt L some more, The Team will have to fight it out for the rest.

12&U Mixed - Report by Sheridan Mom
This week, size seemed to be on our side, with NYP appearing smaller and younger than our squad. But that didn’t slow us down. The team played outstanding water polo — strong and disciplined in defense, with excellent counterattacks right across the pool.
We have a bye this week, then it’s off to Tri-States before our next game. Great job, team!
Essendon/DVE Aquatic thrashed NYP Dragons : 19 - 0 Goals : Louis 5, Jack 5, Xavier 4, Evin 3, Reuben 2

Tough match for our Footscray/Essendon/Monash/Northcote U14s boys- 8 players (4 U12s!) against top of the table MC Gold at Hawthorn.
Overall a challenging match up, with our inexperience showing. Angus battled hard in goals all game, but was overwhelemed by the volume of shots! A great team move late in the match lead to a penalty, which was expertly put away by Lukas.
Footscray/Essendon/Monash/Northcote were defeated by MC Gold : 1 - 20
Goals : Lukas 1
