The girls enjoyed an evening on the couch with a scheduled bye this week, but will be up against Monash after the school holiday break.

Our last encounter against Monash, saw us being clobbered by 10 goals, not our finest moment. With just 7 girls confirmed for the game thi week, it was looking grim until LisaAs declared she could make the early start dashing off early from work. Relieved to have a bench, we were further bouyed by the arrival of Supercoach Steere, as he made his way over to our group, on a night his SL2 girls were enjoying an evening at home. It was clear from the start, this would be a close affair as neither team managed to score after 4 mins. Plenty of back and forth, some good passages of play, but we couldn't convert those to goals. Sheridan got us on the board late in the piece before Monash too opened their account, ending the quarter 1-1. Darren told us to use the clock better, keep the ball moving and look for the free player when they doubled up in defence. The second quarter was a repeat of the first, with both teams scoring a single, ours from Maddy. But we contined to miss opportunites, throwing at the keeper and not the corners. We had the edge over Monash in the third, helped by Sandra in goals who stopping everything. We had some terrific attacks and plenty of shots but once more, just couldn't find the back of the net. Neither team scored, keeping it 2-2 at three quarter time. Monash found some gusto in the final quarter and took the lead early on, 2-3. Then it was back and forth for several minutes before Maddy shot one in leveling the scores again. With just 20 seconds left on the clock, a quick pass found Maddy, who let fly at goal. Unfortunately, the shot missed, meaning we had to settle for a draw. A game we propably should have won by 5 goals... if all our players shots were remotely on target (I know I missed 2!! 😭)

Still... a draw is not a loss, and a vast improvement on our previous result. Huge thanks to Darren, whose words of wisdom always impacts our performance! Attendance at training helps too 😂

MSL4  Report by Callum Bruce

Essendon put together a strong performance to secure a 13 – 6 victory over the Monash Uni Dolphins. From the opening whistle, Essendon controlled the game with disciplined attacking play and solid defensive pressure. The team created consistent opportunities in attack and converted them into goals, building an early advantage and maintaining control throughout the match.

Monash continued to compete strongly and managed to find the back of the net six times, but Essendon’s defensive structure and work rate kept the opposition from closing the gap. Essendon continued to build on their lead across the four quarters, finishing the game strongly.

The final scoreline saw a 7 goal win for Essendon, with a well-rounded team effort contributing to the convincing win.
