Women's A Grade
Our womens A were scheduled to have the night off this week, with a bye so were not affected by the pool closure.
Women's B Grade : EssRed
Women's B Grade : EssBlack
With our Black team due to play at 7.40pm Tuesday night and our Reds at 8.20pm, there was a rush to communicate the pool closure amongst players with VicPolo phoning through with the news at 5.15pm. The main indoor pool where our games were to be played had murky water so MSAC made the call to cancel all games. All matches will be re-scheduled, so our comp will finish a week after the men.
Men's C Grade - Report by Marcus Jones
A chilly summer's night at MSAC and black crows in the area which can only mean one thing - cold and flu was in the area. With most of the team affected by illness we scrambled a few blokes together and we fought like lions in the Serengeti......which only got us kicked out cos we played from behind too much. But Essendon fans don't worry we fought on like the salmon swimming up an ice stream. In the end we lost by 10 but they could never take away our dignity because we didn't have much to start with.
Special mention to the whole team who all missed goals throught the night.
Essendon were defeated by the Richmond Tigers : 4 - 14 Goals : Lee 2, Riccardo 1, Ambrose 1
Men's D Grade - Report by Bryan Wee
You never feel more welcome by your team in water polo when you come late and are the only sub! This is a love greater than a puppy with a new owner. However that was short lived when Will, a younger, (but not as good looking) player arrived!
The game was pretty tight in the first quarter but MC showed class by getting one more goal. We had attempts but could not convert. Andrew was solid in goals and denied a few for them too. They had a few strong big players that mauled out center forward. That was me and I might have enjoyed it a little. Not as much as Hayden would but we get our kicks where we can. Liam and Sam matched them in the second quarter. Liam with characteristic power to the back of the nets and Sam taking it off the hand on a great drive. Smart water polo. We turned up like the Carlton football club in the third quarter. No bueno and we were lucky to confine them to two. Our defence was slightly stronger than the Blues last week. With the end looking grim we came good in the last coming back from 3-6 to even the score 7-7. Tom was super unlucky to get a goal disallowed. Bryan worked hard to get a 5 m and absolutely no one would take the penalty. The team has never swum so hard to the other end of the pool to “cover” god only knows what. There must’ve been a pot of gold there or a keg of guiness for St Paddy’s. Fortunately it went thru. Good heart and come back for the draw.
Essendon drew with Melbourne Collegians Blue : 7 - 7
Goals : Bryan 3, Liam 1, SamB 1, Hayden 1, Tom 1
